How to manage Location Maps plugin?
Admin side
Go to Admin Area > Plugins > Installed Plugins. 1)
Find the Google Maps Location plugin - move mouse cursor over it, and click the Settings button.
You will be directed to the Location Maps Plugin Settings page.
The Location Maps plugin consists of two maps' types: Google and Bing. Choose Google or Bing maps in the Map provider field.
Google Maps
The Google Maps APIs require an API key for new domains. See announcement: http://googlegeodevelopers.blogspot.com.au/2016/06/building-for-scale-updates-to-google.html
To get the API key, follow the steps below:
- First you should go to Google Developers Console and login using your Gmail account.
- Then follow the link:
https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/get-api-key
- Create the key by clicking the get a key button.
- You will get the API key, copy it and paste into Admin Area > Plugins > Installed plugins > Location Maps > Google Map Location > API Key field.
Distance units field allows you to choose miles or kilometres for the Location field.
If you want to limit the search results to one country, choose the required country in the Country list. If all countries should be available, choose All countries value.
Check the Auto fill location on search box if the user's location should be automatically added to the Location field on the Search page. For example, if user chose United States on the Join form, the United States will be automatically added to the Location field on the Search form.
Bing Maps
The Bing Maps require an API key to function properly. To get the key, follow the steps below:
- Go to the Bing Maps Dev Center at https://www.bingmapsportal.com/
If you have a Bing Maps account, sign in with the Microsoft account that you used to create the account or create a new one. For new accounts, follow the instructions in Creating a Bing Maps Account.
Select Keys under My Account.
- Provide the following information to create a key:
Application name: Required. The name of the application.
Application URL: The URL of the application.
Key type: Required. Select the key type that you want to create. You can find descriptions of key and application types here.
Application type: Required. Select the application type that best represents the application that will use this key. You can find descriptions of key and application types here.
- Type the characters of the security code, and then click Create. The new key displays in the list of available keys. Use this key to authenticate your Bing Maps application as described in the documentation for the Bing Maps API you are using.
User Side
There are two pages where the Google Maps Location plugin is used:
Join page
If you enter, city, country, zip to the Location field on the Join page, your location is displayed on the Google map.
Search
There is Map tab on the Search Result page showing the location of users.
Profile View
If you click on the value given in the Location field, the Map component showing the user's city appears.
